Defense Stands Tall as Sycamores Shut Out Furman

GREENVILLE, S.C. – Indiana State women's soccer started off their trip to the Carolinas with a win as they shut out Furman 1-0 Thursday night at Stone Stadium.

Freshman forward Mackenzie Kent beat the defense and scored her second goal of the season in the 49th minute to give the Sycamores the lead.

Furman midfielder Nieva Gaither paced the Paladins with five of their 13 shot attempts on the night. Nora Sampson replaced starter Addison Corn for the second half and made four saves.

Indiana State recorded 14 shots for the match with junior midfielder CeCe Wahlberg leading the way with five.

Sophomore goalkeeper Maddie Alexander saved all four shots on goal she faced to earn the seventh shut out of her Sycamore career.

The win improves the Sycamores record to 2-3 and gives Furman their first loss of the season to drop them to 3-1.

Indiana State will finish their visit to the Carolinas with a match against UNC Asheville at 12 p.m. ET on Sunday at Greenwood Soccer Field.
