Indiana State and UNC Asheville Battle to 1-1 Draw

ASHEVILLE, NC. – Indiana State women's soccer played to a 1-1 draw Sunday afternoon against UNC Asheville at Greenwood Soccer Field.

The Sycamores put nine shots on goal in the first half but were kept off the board with UNC Asheville goalie Bronwyn Luitwieler making five saves. Maddie Alexander and the Indiana State defense held the Bulldogs to just three shots to make it a scoreless first half.

Kaiya Boyd gave UNC Asheville the lead in the 64th minute when Barrett Edison and Alice Walker helped find her open to score her first goal of the season.

Indiana State answered quickly as sophomore Sasha Thompson beat the keeper off a pass from Mackenzie Kent in the 67th minute for her first collegiate goal. The assist was Kent's second of the season.

The match would go on to finish in a 1-1 draw which is the first tie for both teams this season.

The Sycamores put up 24 shots in today's match with 13 being on goal. Luitwieler made seven more saves the rest of the way for the Bulldogs to finish with 12. UNC Asheville recorded 12 shots with four on goal. Maddie Alexander finished with three saves.

The tie breaks UNC Asheville's 10 match losing streak and moves their record to 0-5-1. Indiana State's record goes to 2-3-1.

Indiana State will travel to Toledo on Friday, September 10 for a 7 p.m. ET match at Paul Hotmer Field.
