TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Indiana State volleyball returns to action this weekend when they matchup with Eastern Illinois for a home-and-home series.
 
OPENING SERVE
Indiana State volleyball is will look to extend their winning streak over the weekend when they compete with Eastern Illinois in a home-and-home series. The opening match will take place at the ISU Arena with first serve slated for 6 p.m. ET on ESPN3. The match at Eastern Illinois will take place on Sunday, Sept. 19 in Charelston, Ill., with first serve scheduled for 5 p.m. ET on ESPN+. The Panthers enter the match on a hot-streak of their own, boasting a 7-1 record through the season.
 
LAST TIME OUT
Sycamore volleyball claimed the Sycamore Invitational title on their home court, winning three matches in three days to hoist the trophy. They started the weekend with a 3-1 victory over IUPUI before a dramatic come-from-behind (0-2) victory over Western Michigan, a squad that finished 45th in RPI a season ago. The weekend concluded with another five-set victory over Austin Peay. The Sycamore Invitational marked the first nonconference tournament title for ISU since the 2015 campaign when they won the ISU Classic.
 
SERIES AT A GLANCE
Eastern Illinois: The Panthers leads the overall series with Indiana State, 29-16, winning the last match in 2017, 3-2. This season, Eastern Illinois boasts a potent serving attack, ranking third in the NCAA in service aces per set at 2.32. They are 15th in the NCAA with 72 total aces.
 
CHAMPIONSHIP WEEKEND
Sycamore volleyball accomplished a feat they hadn't managed to accomplish since the 2015 season over the weekend: claiming a preseason tournament title. Indiana State defeated IUPUI, Western Michigan and Austin Peay to go 3-0 on the weekend and win the Sycamore Invitational, their first championship since winning the 2015 ISU Classic. The 2021 tournament featured an impressive come-from-behind victory over Western Michigan, a team that finished 45th in RPI during the spring season. In addition to winning the tournament, ISU's five-match winning streak is also the longest since the 2015 campaign when they won five in-a-row.
 
GETTING DEFENSIVE
Indiana State has creeped their way into the top-50 nationally in a defensive category, thanks to strong efforts at the Sycamore Invitational. The Sycamores rank 35th in the NCAA with 16.46 digs per set in with Melina Tedrow leading the way at libero. She sits at 76th in the nation with 4.61 digs per set as an individual.
 
CLIMBING THE LADDER
Melina Tedrow continued to claw her way up the Indiana State record book over the weekend, using 57 total digs over three matches to push her career number to 1332. She is now just 102 digs away from fifth in the record book. Nationally, Tedrow is 76th with 4.61 digs per set.

With an undefeated weekend at the Music City Invitational, Sycamore volleyball earned their 500th victory in program history. Indiana State clinched victory 500 on Saturday evening, defeating Belmont, 3-1, on the Bruins home court. The Sycamores' first official year of volleyball was 1977.
