DE KALB, Ill. - Indiana State women's soccer fell to Northern Illinois 2-1 in double overtime on Sunday night at the NIU Soccer and Track & Field Complex.
The match remained tied 0-0 for 87 minutes until Northern Illinois' Haley Hoppe scored on a feed from Kali Stock to give the Huskies the lead.
Less than two minutes later, the Sycamores tied the match when
Mackenzie Kent scored from deep with
Katie Yankey recording the assist to send it into overtime.
The match would go all the way into double overtime where Northern Illinois won it in the 104
th minute with Haley Hoppe scoring her second goal on a corner from Kali Stock which was her second assist on the night.
Indiana State recorded 10 shots on the night with
Mackenzie Kent and
CeCe Wahlberg both having three.
Tara Tesmond faced 10 shots from the Huskies while making two saves.
NIU put five shots on goal from their 10 attempts. Sadie McGill made six saves on the night for the Huskies.
The Sycamores will wrap up their road trip in Columbia, Mo. with a matchup against Missouri on Thursday at 7 p.m. ET. Indiana State will then host UT Martin in their home opener on Sunday, August 29 at 1 p.m. ET.
