Sycamores Split Double Header with Panthers

CHARLESTON, Ill. – The Indiana State softball team split its doubleheader against Eastern Illinois Tuesday. The Sycamores (11-17, 3-5 MVC) shutout the Panthers in game one by a score of 5-0 and dropped the second by a score of 4-0 at the Williams Field.

KEY MOMENT – GAME ONE
Senior Gabbi Schnaiter and sophomore Lexi Benko tossed the combined shutout. Schnaiter earned her fifth victory of the year fanning three Panthers, while Benko struck out four throwing two scoreless innings only giving up one hit.

SCORING SUMMARY – GAME ONE
Top 1st – (ISU 1, EIU 0)
Mallory Marsicek hit a leadoff single and Annie Tokarek brought her in with a single through the left side.

Top 5th – (ISU 4, EIU 0)
Olivia Patton doubled to left field and Bella Peterson plated her with a single. Isabella Henning reached on an error and Peterson scored. Annie Tokarek hit a sacrifice fly to bring in Henning.

Top 6th – (ISU 5, EIU 0)
Lexie Siwek singled to lead off the inning and stole second. Mycaela Miller brought in Siwek with a single through the left side.

The Sycamores offense went cold with only four Trees recording hits, coming from Bella Peterson, Annie Tokarek, Amanda Guercio and Lexie Siwek.
