TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The Indiana State softball team fell in the series opener against Southern Illinois, 3-1, on Saturday afternoon at Price Field.
Indiana State drops to 16-21 on the season and 9-9 in MVC play while Southern Illinois improves to 30-10 and 12-6 in Valley action.
Olivia Patton led the Sycamores offense with a season and career high four hits in a game. The lefty slapper was perfect at the plate for the fourth time in her career.
Southern Illinois struck first in the top of the second with a two-out single and pushed two runs across the plate on an ISU error. The Salukis extended their lead after capitalizing on yet another Sycamore error to give them a 3-0 lead.
The Sycamores got on the board in the bottom of the third.
Mallory Marsicek reached on fielder's choice and advanced around to third on a passed ball.
Amanda Guercio brought in Marsicek with two out single. Indiana States comeback ultimately fell short, 3-1.
