EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The Indiana State softball team split a doubleheader against Evansville on Wednesday evening at Copper Stadium. The Sycamores used a three-run seventh to take game one by a score of 6-3 before falling 12-4 in the nightcap.
Indiana State moves to 16-20 on the season and 9-8 in MVC play while Evansville sits at 19-17 and 7-10 in Valley action.
Annie Tokarek moved up to third all-time in the Indiana State record book with her 15th career home run in game one as she went 2-for-4 to lead the Sycamores offense with three runs batted in.
Game One – Indiana State 6, Evansville 3
Evansville struck first with a solo home run from senior Eryn Gould in the bottom of the first inning. Mycaela Miller connected with a solo blast of her own over the left field wall to tie the game at one run apiece in the bottom half of the third.
The Purple Aces would regain the lead, 3-1 in the bottom of the fourth with a two-run home run. Annie Tokarek answered with her fifth home run on the year to tie the game back up at three in the top of the sixth.
With two outs in the top of the seventh inning, five-straight Sycamores reached base to put a trio of runs on the board. Isabella Henning sparked the rally with a double off the left center field wall and Amanda Guercio brought Henning in to give the Sycamores the 4-3 lead. LexieSiwek plated Guercio with a single and Annie Tokarek rounded out the rally with a single to bring in Siwek to give ISU the 6-3 lead.

Game Two – Evansville 12, Indiana State 4
The Purple Aces jumped out in front first with a double to left center field and a single to take an early 2-0 lead. They extended their lead 5-0, in the bottom of the second with a double to right center and a two-run home run over the left field wall from Eryn Gould.
Isabella Henning doubled in the top of the fourth and Amanda Guercio reached on an error to give ISU two base runners. LexieSiwek singled to bring in Henning and get the Sycamores on the board. In the top of the fifth, Guercio doubled down the right field line to pull the Sycamores within two runs, 5-3.
The Aces extended their lead 7-3 with a two-run shot over the left field wall.
The Sycamores capitalized on two Evansville errors and a Mallory Marsicek single brought in a run for Indiana State.
Evansville put a big inning together to plate five runs to win the game by a score of 12-4.
