PEORIA, Ill. – The Indiana State softball team won their series finale over Bradley in comeback fashion, by a score of 5-4 on Sunday afternoon at Peterson Hotels Field.
Indiana State improved to 15-19 on the season and 8-7 in MVC play while Bradley fell to 15-13 and 8-7 in Valley action.
Gabbi Schnaiter got the start in the circle, throwing six complete innings and fanning four Braves en route to securing her sixth win of the season.
Lexi Benko took over in the seventh inning to shut the door and earned her second save of the year.
Amanda Guercio was a big offensive threat for the Sycamores going 2-for-4 while driving the game-tying run in the top of the seventh inning.
Isabella Henning came in clutch to plate Guercio with her game-winning RBI single, to complete rally.
Bradley got on the board first in the bottom of the first inning with a two-run single from Taise Thompson. Indiana State trailed until the third inning, when
Bella Peterson drove in the first run by reaching base on a fielder's choice. Guercio tied the game with her first-career triple.
In the bottom of the fifth, the Braves bounced back to take the two-run lead from a sacrifice fly and an ISU error.
Abi Chipps led off the top of the seventh with a single to spark the Indiana State offense and
Olivia Patton singled to give the Sycamores two base runners. Guercio hit her second triple of the game to bring in Chipps and Patton, tying the game at four runs apiece.
Isabella Henning stepped up to the plate and delivered a single to bring in Guercio, to complete the Sycamores comeback.
