DES MOINES, Iowa – The Indiana State softball team earned the series sweep over Drake Sunday afternoon using a late comeback en route to an extra-innings 6-4 victory at Buel Field.
KEY MOMENT
The Sycamores (14-17, 7-5 MVC) trailed the Bulldogs until the seventh inning. Missouri Valley Conference doubles-leader
Bella Peterson sparked the offense with a two-run double in the second inning.
Lexie Siwek had herself a weekend continuing her hit streak, tying the game with a single in the top of the seventh.
Kennedy Shade was the hero in the top of the eighth with her game-winning double to left field to give the Sycamores the lead.
SCORING SUMMARY
Bottom 1st – (ISU 0, DU 3)
The Bulldogs strike first with a trio of runs on four hits.
Top 2nd – (ISU 2, DU 3)
TeAnn Bringle was hit by a pitch and Olivia Patton singled to give ISU two base runners. Bella Peterson drove in Bringle and Patton with a double off the center field wall.
Top 7th – (ISU 3, DU 3)
Bella Peterson doubled to lead off the inning and Annie Tokarek walked. Lexie Siwek singled to left field to plate Peterson to tie the game.
Top 8th – (ISU 6, DU 3)
Alexis McCullough led off the inning with a walk and Olivia Patton singled. Kennedy Shade came up clutch to give the Sycamores the lead with a double to left field.
Bottom 8th – (ISU 6, DU 4)
The Bulldogs loaded the bases and plated a run via a walk, but Abbey Kruzel finished it off to earn her first save of the season.
