Sycamores close home non-conference slate against UIC

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. Indiana State plays its final home non-conference game of the season Tuesday evening when it welcomes UIC to the Hulman Center. Tipoff between the Sycamores and Flames is set for 6 p.m., with the game being carried on ESPN3 and 105.5 The Legend.

Last Time Out
Florence Tshimanga had career highs of seven points and five rebounds Saturday afternoon, but a strong second half propelled (RV/RV) Nebaska past visiting Indiana State, 78-50, inside Pinnacle Bank Arena.
 
Del'Janae Williams led the Sycamores with 10 points, nearly all of which came in the fourth quarter. Marie Hunter added eight, while Caitlin Anderson had six. Arianna Smith had a team-high seven rebounds in her first start since the opening week of the season.
 
The Sycamores stayed within close range of the Cornhuskers until a 20-2 run that spanned the last half of the first quarter and the first half of the second quarter put the home side in control. ISU still gave Nebraska fits throughout the game, however, as the Sycamores forced 24 Cornhusker turnovers in the contest.
 
A Closer Look at UIC
UIC enters Tuesday's game at 2-5 overall and 1-3 in Horizon League play. The Flames won their first conference game of the season in their last contest, a 68-64 overtime win over Detroit Mercy.
 
Jaida McCloud had a career-high 30 points for UIC in the Flames' win over Detroit Mercy, while Kristian Young had 11 off the bench. Justice Gee had a team-leading seven rebounds for the Flames.
 
McCloud leads the Flames in scoring at 19.7 points per game and rebounding at 6.6 boards per contest, and is one of two UIC players to average double-figure scoring. Young averages 11.0 points per game along with a team-best 4.4 assists per game.
 
Series History Against UIC
Indiana State and UIC have previously met 15 times, with the Sycamores holding a 12-3 advantage in the all-time series. ISU has won each of the last two meetings between the schools and is a perfect 6-0 in games played in Terre Haute.
 
Del'Janae Williams led all scorers with 23 points the last time the Sycamores and Flames met, a 61-40 Indiana State win in Chicago during the 2019-20 season. Williams also had five rebounds and three assists, while setting her career high of seven steals, a feat that she has matched twice this season.
 
Twenty-Point Scorers
Indiana State had a stretch of three consecutive games with a 20-point scorer earlier this season.
 
Del'Janae Williams had back-to-back 20-point performances earlier this season, notching a career-best 26 points in a win over Georgia Southern and scoring 24 in a win over Chicago State. Mya Glanton had a career-high 22 points, along with 16 rebounds, against Western Michigan in ISU's last game at the Hulman Center.
 
Williams leads all active Sycamore players with three 20-point games in her career, while Caitlin Anderson and Adrian Folks have each posted two in their career. Glanton and Essy Latu each have one 20-point outing.

Thievery
Indiana State's defense continues to remain among the nation's best at forcing turnovers, as the Sycamores enter Tuesday's contest sitting in the top 25 in a pair of separate team defensive categories. The Sycamores are 22nd overall in turnovers forced per game (22.56) and 25th in steals per game (11.9).  ISU is also 34th in total steals (107) and leads the Missouri Valley Conference in all three categories.
 
Indiana State made its mark early in the season with a 21-steal contest against Stephens (Mo.) to open the year. Since then, ISU has recorded at least 10 steals in six of the last eight contests, including 13 in back-to-back games against Georgia Southern and Chicago State. Overall, it's been a team effort by Indiana State with four players posting double-digit steals on the year and 10 players overall recording multiple steals.
 
In addition to getting their hands on the ball, ISU has been constantly harassing the opposition and has posted five games with at least 20 forced turnovers on defense. The Sycamores forced a season-high 36 turnovers against Stephens (Mo.) and carried on with 26 forced turnovers against Saint Louis, 21 against Georgia Southern, 21 against Chicago State and 24 in back-to-back games against Western Michigan and (RV/RV) Nebraska.
 
No Fly Zone
Indiana State's contest against Georgia Southern marked the second time in the 2021-22 season that the Sycamores held an opponent scoreless from behind the arc. ISU limited the Eagles to a 0-for-14 performance behind the three-point line to shut down Georgia Southern in the 71-67 win.
 
The Sycamores previously limited Stephens (Mo.) to a 0-for-12 mark behind the arc to open the year and have held opponents under .300 from the three-point line on five separate occasions this year. ISU has also held opponents to just a .276 three-point percentage on the year.
 
Banner Year
The 2021-22 season has already seen multiple Indiana State players set career highs in the scoring column. Overall, five different returning Sycamores have set new career bests in scoring this season, with a pair of newcomers also posting double-digit efforts this season.
 
Del'Janae Williams had a career-high 26 in Indiana State's road win over Georgia Southern in one of her two 20-point games this season, while Adrian Folks had a career-best 24 in a double-double at Saint Louis. Mya Glanton set career-high marks of 22 points and 16 rebounds in ISU's last home game against Western Michigan.
 
Marie Hunter (19 vs. Jacksonville State) and Natalia Lalic (13 at Georgia Southern) have also set their career highs in scoring this season. In addition, Anna McKendree (13 vs. Stephens (Mo.)) and Arianna Smith (11 at Western Kentucky) have hit double-figures in scoring during their first seasons in the Blue and White.
