Tshimanga sets career highs in road loss to (RV/RV) Nebraska

LINCOLN, Neb.Florence Tshimanga had career highs of seven points and five rebounds Saturday afternoon, but a strong second half propelled (RV/RV) Nebaska past visiting Indiana State, 78-50, inside Pinnacle Bank Arena.

Del'Janae Williams led the Sycamores with 10 points, nearly all of which came in the fourth quarter. Marie Hunter added eight, while Caitlin Anderson had six. Arianna Smith had a team-high seven rebounds in her first start of the season.

The Sycamores stayed within close range of the Cornhuskers until a 20-2 run that spanned the last half of the first quarter and the first half of the second quarter put the home side in control. ISU still gave Nebraska fits throughout the game, however, as the Sycamores forced 24 Cornhusker turnovers in the contest.

First Half
Indiana State's defense forced turnovers on each of Nebraska's first two possessions and kept it close throughout the early stages. Anna McKendree kickstarted a five-point swing midway through the opening quarter for the Sycamores with a three-pointer, which was followed by a Tonysha Curry jumper to even the score at 9-all. The home side went on a 9-0 run before Anderson closed the quarter with a jumper.

The Cornhuskers opened the second quarter with an 11-0 run that doubled their lead. Anderson and Natalia Lalic gave the Sycamores a boost late in the half on the offensive end with a 4-0 run, but Nebraska closed with a 10-2 run, including a basket just before the horn to take a 39-17 lead into the locker room.

Second Half
Lalic opened the scoring in the second half with a jumper from the wing, as ISU looked to cut into its deficit and get back into the game. ISU nearly matched its first-half offensive output with 14 points in the third quarter, as six different Sycamores contributed to the scoring in the period. Tshimanga had five in the quarter, connecting on a pair of baskets and a free throw.

Hunter, Williams and Arianna Smith combined to score 17 points in the fourth quarter as Indiana State matched Nebraska with 19 in the quarter. ISU chipped away at the Cornhusker lead, as Williams kickstarted a 7-2 run to give the Trees some late life. Hunter then connected on back-to-back jumpers in the late stages before a Williams 3-pointer closed the scoring for the Sycamores.
