TERRE HAUTE, Ind. –
Caitlin Anderson scored a career-high 16 points off the bench and
Tonysha Curry posted her first career double-double Tuesday evening to lead Indiana State past UIC, 76-50, inside the Hulman Center.
Curry finished with career highs of 15 points and 12 rebounds for the Sycamores, while
Mya Glanton also finished in double-figures with 10. Indiana State led by as many as 35 points in the game and made its presence felt inside, scoring 50 of its 76 points in the paint.
ISU went on a 15-2 run midway through the first quarter and never looked back. The Sycamores limited UIC to 10 points or fewer in each of the first three quarters on the defensive end, while shooting more than 50 percent from the field on the offensive side.
First Half
UIC scored each of the first two baskets of the game but that was the only lead the Flames had in the contest. Curry started the 15-2 run for the Sycamores with a hook shot and from there, the rout was on.
Natalia Lalic connected on a pair of 3-pointers during the run, while Indiana State's defense held UIC without a field goal for the final five minutes of the opening quarter. ISU led 19-9 after the opening 10 minutes following the lengthy scoring run.
Glanton opened the scoring in the second quarter for the Sycamores before a pair of UIC baskets cut ISU's lead down to eight, 21-13, with seven minutes left in the half. Curry ended the quick Flames run with a layup and Indiana State led by double-digits for the remainder of the contest after the basket. Glanton and Curry combined for 13 points in the second quarter and shot 6-of-9 from the field, while ISU's defense forced six UIC turnovers in the quarter to build a 20-point lead at the half, 39-19.
Second Half
Indiana State continued to build off its strong first half, scoring the first six points of the third quarter. Anderson led the charge for the Sycamores in the third quarter with eight points, while ISU as a team took advantage of UIC turnovers to score 11 fast break points in the quarter.
Del'Janae Williams found Curry down low for a layup late in the quarter to push the Sycamore lead to 35 points at 62-27, the largest ISU lead of the contest.
The Sycamores continued to find success on the offensive end in the fourth quarter, with five different players scoring in the last 10 minutes. UIC started to make baskets late in the quarter but Indiana State had the game in hand by that point, as the closest the Flames came within was a 24-point margin, 74-50, inside the last two minutes. ISU was able to use its bench to close out the game and claim its second win inside the Hulman Center this season.
