Sycamores jump ahead early in home-opening win over Stephens

Box Score TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Indiana State's swarming defense and opportunistic offense was on full display in Tuesday's season opener as the Sycamores jumped ahead by double-digits early in the 88-33 win over visiting Stephens College.
 
The Sycamores (1-0) made sure Head Coach Chad Killinger's first game on the ISU sidelines was one to remember as Indiana State held Stephens scoreless from the floor over the first 13:44 of the game and surrendered just two field goals in the opening half in the win.
 
Adrian Folks led five Sycamores in double-digits in the season-opening win with the junior forward posting 16 points on 8-of-16 shooting from the floor. Anna McKendree (13), Del'Janae Williams (12), Caitlin Anderson (10), and Natalia Lalic (10) were also in double-digits in the win. Additionally, all 10 Indiana State players recorded at least one rebound and nine players recorded at least one assist in the Sycamores win.
 
Cedreanna Lee led Stephens (1-2) with a team-high 12 points, while Marveen Ross added 10 points in the losing effort. The Stars were 9-of-49 from the floor and 0-for-12 from the three-point line while turning the ball over 36 times on Tuesday night.
 
Key Sequence
Indiana State's defense reigned supreme early in the contest. The Sycamores held the Stars scoreless from the floor over the first 13 minutes of the first half and limited the stars to just 2-of-20 from the floor in building a 44-10 halftime lead. All 10 ISU players that dressed out, scored during the opening half with Indiana State shooting 47.5% from the floor while forcing 22 Stephens first-half turnovers in the win.

  • Indiana State shot 37-of-73 from the floor, 7-of-24 from the three-point line, and 7-of-16 from the free throw line in the win.
  • The Sycamores out-rebounded the Stars, 47-37, with Indiana State posting 16 offensive rebounds in the win.
  • Indiana State recorded 25 assists overall in the win with nine of the 10 ISU players on the court recording at least one assist.
