TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The Indiana State volleyball team picked up its third consecutive victory on Senior Night Saturday evening during a straight sweep (25-17, 25-23, 25-15) of Drake at the ISU Arena. With the win, ISU moved to 16-10 on the season and 8-8 in MVC action while the Bulldogs moved to 10-14 and 5-11 in conference play.
Indiana State outhit Drake in the match .233 to .085 while recording 39 kills in the win. Defensively ISU was strong, digging out 48 Drake attacks while blocking seven shots at the net.
The Sycamores were led by
Karinna Gall who had a match high 11 kills to go with nine digs. ISU's balanced attack led to five others picking up three or more kills.
Mallory Keller tallied eight,
Kylie Newby finished with seven while
Kaitlyn Hamilton and
Madeline Williams accounted for five apiece.
Three Sycamores tallied nine or more digs led by
Ashley Eck's 11.
Emma Kaelin assisted on 20 ISU kills while also picking up six digs.
Lindsey Pliapol led Drake with nine kills while Kylee Mack had 12 digs.
Indiana State came out on top in the opening set after leading the whole way.
Karinna Gall led the offensive attack with four kills while five other Sycamores recorded a kill. The ISU defense was solid early, digging out 15 Drake attacks while holding the Bulldogs to just a .054 attacking percentage.
The Sycamores fell behind 9-3 to Drake early in the second frame before reeling off four-straight points to force DU to use a timeout. ISU would continue to chip away at the Drake lead and eventually tie the match at 16 before ending the set on a 9-7 run to take a 2-0 lead in the match. ISU edged out DU in hitting in the set .163 to .143.
It was all Indiana State in the third and final set. Tied at five, ISU scored seven straight points as Eck had back-to-back service aces and the rest was academic. ISU went on to score the final 20 points to win while holding Drake to just 10 points. Defensively, Indiana State held the Bulldogs to a .034 hitting percent while going for a match-best .455 hitting percentage.
The Trees are back in action for the final weekend of the regular season next Friday and Saturday with trips to Missouri State and Southern Illinois.
