SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Indiana State was unable to overcome Missouri State's strong start to the third set and the Sycamores were unable to rally back in the fourth in falling to the host Bears on Friday night, 27-25, 19-25, 8-25, 12-25.
Indiana State (16-11, 8-9 MVC) was paced by a pair of double-digit kill performances by
Kaitlyn Hamilton and
Mallory Keller on the evening, while
Chloe Mason added a 17-assist, 13-dig double-double on the night.
Emma Kaelin added 15 assists and seven digs, while
Ashley Eck paced the team with 14 digs on the backline.
Missouri State (16-13, 7-10 MVC) utilized strong performances by Amelia Flynn (17 kills, 18 digs) and Brooklyn Cink (10 kills) as the teams split the season series. The Sycamores topped the Bears, 3-0, in the first matchup of the season in Terre Haute, while the Bears evened the score in the Hammons Student Center.
Indiana State held control of the first set as the Sycamores limited the Bears to a .078 hitting percentage in the frame on their way to building a 21-14 lead following a
Storm Suhre kill. The Bears rallied back and held set point at 24-23 and 25-24 with the latter coming on a Manuela Ibarguen kill. ISU bounced back to take the final three points of the frame as Hamilton put in her second kill of the set to tie it up, while
Madeline Williams served the Sycamores out in the 27-25 set win.
The second frame was back-and-forth through the first 20 points with a Keller kill evening the score up at 10-10. The Bears would go on to score five of the next six points with a Cink kill putting MSU ahead 15-11. ISU would battle back throughout the remainder of the set, but were not able to bridge the gap in falling 25-19.
The third and fourth sets belonged to the Bears as Missouri State jumped out to a 11-1 lead in the third frame on their way to taking the 25-8 win and 2-1 lead. A 9-3 run in the fourth set also put the Bears in control in the fourth set in the 25-12 set and match win.
