Sycamores Pick Up Sweep and Fourth Win All-time Against Missouri State Monday

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Indiana State volleyball wrapped up its three-match homestand with a 3-0 (25-20, 27-25, 25-14) sweep of Missouri State Monday night at the ISU Arena. The victory marked just the fourth time all-time that the Sycamores have defeated MSU and the second ever sweep over the Bears.
 
Indiana State (14-11, 5-8 MVC) used a balanced attack as three Sycamores recorded double-digit kills in what was a crucial match down the stretch as the Bears sat a half-game ahead in the MVC standings entering the match. Mallory Keller led the Sycamores with 12 kills while Kylie Newby and Madeline Williams tallied 11 kills apiece.
 
Terre Haute native Chloe Mason paced ISU with 20 assists and seven digs while Emma Kaelin added 14 assists and four digs. Melina Tedrow was tops on the squad with 18 digs while also assisting on six Sycamore kills from the libero position. Karinna Gall also put up a balanced stat sheet with six kills and eight digs.
 
Overall, the Sycamores outhit the Bears .242 to .147 while Kaelin picked up three of the four ISU aces. The Bears held a 13 to four advantage in blocks. Lindsay Lahr led the Bears with seven kills on 22 attacks.
 
Set One - Indiana State 25, Missouri State 20
  • Indiana State jumped out to a 9-1 lead early before the Bears closed the gap to two points at 16-14 before an Indiana State timeout
  • Kaitlyn Hamilton led the charge for ISU offensively with five kills while Chloe Mason assisted on eight of ISU's 16 kills
  • The Sycamores outhit the Bears .295 to .214 in the set
  • Missouri State secured six of its points in the set on blocks
 
Set Two - Indiana State 27, Missouri State 25
  • Both squads were hot offensively with ISU edging the Bears .325 to .312 in hitting percentage
  • The set featured 11 ties and five lead changes
  • ISU trailed 23-21 before reeling off a 6-1 run to jump back in front
  • Kylie Newby was 5-for-5 on attacks while Mallory Keller and Madeline Williams also tallied five kills
  • ISU converted 61 percent (16-of-26) sideout opportunities
 
Set Three – Indiana State 25, Missouri State 14
  • After trading points early, Indiana State jumped out to a 12-6 lead before the Bears used their first timeout
  • ISU held the Bears to just .061 hitting while hitting .231 led by Williams who went 4-for-5 on the attack
  • No MSU player recorded more than two kills in the set
  • MSU was just 36 percent (9-of-25) on sideout chances
  • Three Sycamores tallied three or more assists led by Mason who had five
 
Indiana State will be back in action this weekend with a pair of road matches. The Sycamores will play Bradley Friday before traveling to Illinois State Saturday.
