ST. LOUIS – Indiana State volleyball's
Kylie Newby has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Defensive Player of the Week, the League office announced Monday afternoon.
Newby, a Louisville, Kentucky product, is coming off a career weekend in which she accounted for 13 of the Sycamores' 19 blocks during a 3-1 victory over Valparaiso Saturday. The junior middle blocker set career highs in block assists (9) and solo blocks (3) in the outing while also recording nine kills in the win.
Over seven sets during the weekend homestand Newby went for 13 blocks, averaging 1.86 blocks per set and 14 kills as Indiana State tallied a 1-1 record.
The 19-block performance by the Sycamores ranks as the best of the season for the team. The previous high came against Eastern Illinois when the Sycamores blocked 12 Panther attacks.
The Sycamores return to action Monday, November 1 when the team plays host to Missouri State at 6 p.m. inside the ISU Arena.
