Sycamores Unable to Hold Off Braves Fourth Set Run; Fall 3-1

TERRE HAUTE, Ind.  – Indiana State volleyball fell for the second time in as many days as Bradley picked up a 3-1 (21-25, 25-21, 20-25, 23-25) victory inside the ISU Arena Saturday night. The loss marked the fourth consecutive for the Sycamores as the team fell to 9-6 overall and 1-4 in Missouri Valley Conference play.
 
Both teams hit over .200 on the night with Bradley (8-9, 4-2 MVC) edging ISU in the category, .233 to .212, but Indiana State held the slim edge in kills 57-55. Karinna Gall led all players with a match-high 14 kills -- two off her career-high while picking up a double-double with 11 digs. Kaitlyn Hamilton was on fire with a .458 attacking percentage on 13 kills while Madeline Williams rounded out sycamores in double-figure kills with 11 on 26 attempts.
 
Melina Tedrow led ISU defensively with 21 kills to go along with six assists while the duo of Chloe Mason (22) and Emma Kaelin (19) setup 42 kills for the Sycamores. Williams recorded three of the teams' 14 blocks while Mallory Keller tallied two solo blocks at the net.
 
The duo of Hannah Thompson (12) and Kora Kauling (10) led the Braves on the offensive side topping the 10-plus kill mark while recording double-doubles. Raeann Bergman and Silan Demirkol went for eight kills each in the balanced Braves attack. Kauling picked up a double-double with 29 assists to go along with her 10-kill performance while Thompson also added 19 digs on the defensive side for BU.
 
Set One - Bradley 25, Indiana State 21
  • The Braves came out on fire with an attack percent of .342 while holding the Sycamores to .244
  • The set featured six ties and just one lead change
  • Gall led the Sycamores with four kills on a .400 attacking percentage
  • Four Braves recorded three or more kills led by Thompson with four
  • Bradley led by no more than two points until going up 19-16 on a Doga Topcicek ace
  • After an ISU timeout, Bradley went on a 6-4 run to close out the set
 
Set Two - Indiana State 25, Bradley 21
  • Indiana State answered not only with offense with a .231 hitting percent but also on the defensive side, holding Bradley to just .053 on the attack
  • ISU led from start to finish and was led by Hamilton's four kills while Keller and Williams added three apiece
  • Storm Suhre recorded both of her blocks in the set as three Sycamores picked up blocks
 
Set Three - Bradley 25, Indiana State 20
  • Bradley outhit the Sycamores .324 to .184 as Thompson picked up a set high five kills
  • The Braves did not allow the Sycamores to take the lead once and led by as many as eight points midway through
 
Set Four - Bradley 25, Indiana State 23
  • BU outhit ISU .212 to .184 while picking up two aces in the set
  • Indiana State jumped out to an early 11-4 lead before Bradley pulled back to within three at 12-9 forcing a timeout
  • The Braves forced a second and final timeout from ISU after four straight points and back-to-back kills from Karagan Coggin
  • Neither team led by more than two points during the final 29 rallies
  • After Keller tied the match at 23 with a kill, Bradley picked up a kill on the sideout before ending the match with a service aces
 
The Sycamores will be back in action Monday night as the team wraps up a three-match homestand with Southern Illinois at 6 p.m. at the ISU Arena.
