TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Indiana State volleyball earned its sixth home win of the season after a 3-1 (25-19, 25-17, 21-25, 25-13) victory inside the ISU Arena Monday night. The win ended a four-game skid as the Sycamores improved to 10-6 overall and 2-4 in Missouri Valley Conference action. SIU fell to 5-15 overall and 0-7 in MVC play.
Six Sycamores finished with five or more kills in the match led by the duo of
Karinna Gall and
Mallory Keller who went for 10 each. Indiana State outhit Southern Illinois .188 to .078 in the match.
Kaitlyn Hamilton and
Storm Suhre added eight kills while
Kylie Newby and
Madeline Williams recorded five kills apiece.
Indiana State stout defensively, holding SIU to just 43 kills over four sets while four Sycamores recorded double-digit digs led by libero
Melina Tedrow's 19.
Chloe Mason recorded a double-double with 19 assists, 15 digs and four service aces in the win while Gall notched her fifth double-double of the year with a 15-dig performance to go with her 10 kills.
Emma Kaelin also picked up a double-double with 19 assists and 12 digs.
ISU recorded its third-best performance as a team this season with 10 blocks. Six Sycamores held strong at the net led by
Kylie Newby who had a team high three blocks.
SIU's Nataly Garcia led SIU with 16 kills and 11 digs. Anna Jaworski assisted on 38 of the Salukis 43 kills.
Set One - Indiana State 25, Southern Illinois 19
- After a back and forth start, the Salukis used a 4-0 run to extend their lead to 10-6 forcing a timeout
- The set featured eight ties and just one lead change
- Kylie Newby recorded three blocks in the set, including two in the final three points
- Indiana State outhit the Salukis .194 to .061
Set Two - Indiana State 25, Southern Illinois 17
- Indiana State jumped out to an 8-2 lead forcing the Salukis to use both timeouts early
- ISU outhit the Salukis .169 to -.027 with 11 kills on 41 attempts
- Chloe Mason recorded three aces in the set
Set Three - Southern Illinois 25, Indiana State 21
- SIU outhit the Sycamores for the first time in the match .226 to .176
- The set featured six ties and five lead changes
- ISU committed seven errors in the set
Set Four - Indiana State 25, Southern Illinois 13
- ISU led from start to finish and finished the set with 13 kills while SIU committed eight attack errors
- Gall led the team with four kills while Tedrow picked up eight of her 19 digs in the set
- The Sycamores recorded three team blocks in the set while SIU was held to zero
The Sycamores are back in action this weekend with a road trip to Iowa. Indiana State will play at Drake on Friday and Northern Iowa Saturday.
