TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Loyola volleyball rallied back from a 24-17 deficit in the third set to earn a 3-0 (24-26, 25-27, 25-27) sweep of Indiana State Friday night at the ISU Arena. Sitting atop the Missouri Valley Conference entering the matchup, Loyola moved to 9-1 in conference play and 16-6 on the season following the victory while ISU fell to 11-9 and 3-7 in The Valley.
Mallory Keller paced Indiana State with nine kills on the match on a .107 hitting percentage.
Kaitlyn Hamilton and
Madeline Williams added eight kills each. ISU picked up five service aces, including three from
Emma Kaelin.
Chloe Mason led ISU with 18 assists while Kaelin added 15. Libero
Melina Tedrow dug out 13 Loyola attacks to lead the team while
Karinna Gall added 12 digs to go with her seven kills.
Loyola outhit Indiana State .224 to .168 in the match led by a trio of hitters in Emily Banitt (11), Addie Barnes (11) and Taylor Venuto (10) who each hit double-digit kills for the visitors. Three Ramblers recorded double-figure digs led by Lane Jenkins who recorded a double-double after assisting on 26 of the teams' 55 kills.
Set One - Loyola 26, Indiana State 24
- Indiana State jumped out to a 10-7 lead early and 24-20 before the Ramblers reeled off six-straight points to claim the set
- The set featured seven ties and four lead changes
- Loyola's Banitt (6) and ISU's Mallory Keller (4) led each squad in kills
- The teams each hit just over .140 in the set with Loyola taking the slight edge at .143
Set Two - Loyola 27, Indiana State 25
- Back-and-forth, the set featured 17 ties and five lead changes
- Both offenses got their offenses on track hitting over .275 in the set
- LUC's Venuto led all players with six kills while Kaitlyn Hamilton recorded five kills
- Indiana State successfully challenged two plays in the set resulting in points for ISU
- The Ramblers converted 76 percent (19-of-25) sideout opportunities
Set Three – Loyola 27, Indiana State 25
- ISU jumped out to a 6-2 lead before the Ramblers used a timeout
- The Sycamores led 18-12 and 24-17 before Loyola reeled off a 10-1 run to claim the set and earn the sweep
- Indiana State suffered five attack errors down the stretch and nine in the set
- Sarah Murczek led LUC in the set with five kills to go along with six digs
Indiana State returns to action Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m. when the Sycamores play host to Valparaiso.
