CARBONDALE, Ill. – Indiana State women's soccer finished their regular season with a 3-1 victory over Southern Illinois on Thursday night. The Sycamores end the regular season slate with a 6-7-3 (4-2-2) to finish third in the MVC.
First Half
Indiana State got off to a quick start with
CeCe Wahlberg putting a shot on goal less than a minute into the match but the Salukis were able to control possession for the majority of the period.
The Sycamores were able to put four more shots on goal in the first half but were kept off the board by Saluki goalkeeper Ary Lougher.
Southern Illinois took a 1-0 lead in the 16
th minute on a goal from Sam Dodd. Dodd got free behind the Sycamore back line and put one in the back of the net for her first goal of the season.
Indiana State outshot the Salukis 6-5 in the first half.
Audrey Stephens led the Sycamores with two while Christy Murauskis recorded two for Southern Illinois.
Maddie Alexander finished the half with three saves.
The Salukis led 1-0 at the half.
Second Half
The momentum swung back towards the Sycamores in the 55
th minute when
CeCe Wahlberg drew a foul in the box. That allowed for
Chloee Kooker to tie the match on a penalty kick for her first goal of her Sycamore career.
The Sycamores took the lead less than five minutes later on
Alise Emser's first career goal off a corner kick from
Audrey Stephens which was her first assist of the season.
Chloe Tesny gave Indiana State a 3-1 lead with her third goal of the season on a
CeCe Wahlberg assist.
Indiana State recorded five shots in the second half to finish with 11 for the match. Stephens, Tesny and Emser each had two shots to pace the Sycamores. Southern Illinois finished with nine attempts led by Liz Brechtel who had three.
Maddie Alexander added two more saves in the second half to finish with five.

-Indiana State clinches the No. 3 seed in the MVC Tournament with the win.

CeCe Wahlberg now has 70 career shots on goal which ranks second all-time in Sycamore history.
