TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Indiana State women's soccer beat Missouri State 3-1 on Sunday afternoon at Memorial Stadium for their third straight victory.
The Sycamores record improves to 5-7-2 (3-2-1) with the win. Missouri State falls to 4-7-4 (1-4-1).
First Half
The Sycamores took an early lead in the eighth minute as
CeCe Wahlberg scored on a feed from
Jensen Margheim for her fifth goal of the season.
Sasha Thompson found the back of the net on a pass from
Katie Yankey to give Indiana State a 2-0 lead in the 36
th minute.
Maddie Alexander saved both shots she faced in the first half to keep the match 2-0 going into halftime.
Missouri State finished the half with six shot attempts led by Kara Privitera who recorded three shots including two on goal. Indiana State totaled five shots, four of which came from
CeCe Wahlberg.
Second Half
Indiana State would take a 3-0 lead early in the second half as
Mackenzie Kent scored her fifth goal of the season on a pass from
Chloe Tesny.
Abby Couch scored for the Bears in the final minute of the match make it 3-1 and end Indiana State's shutout bid. She was assisted by Iraia Arrue.
The Bears finished the match with 15 shot attempts, led by Kara Privitera who had four. The Sycamores finished with seven shots.
CeCe Wahlberg led the way with four.
Maddie Alexander made five more saves in the second half to finish with seven for the match.
Stats and Notes
CeCe Wahlberg and
Sasha Thompson scored for the second straight match. They are now tied with five goals each to lead the Sycamores this season. Five goals ranks tied for third in the MVC.
Wahlberg, Thompson and
Mackenzie Kent are all tied for the team lead with 12 points each which ranks tied for third in the conference.
