TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – It's a short turnaround for the Indiana State women's golf team as the Sycamores make the short trek to Indianapolis, Ind. and the Highland Country Club for the Butler Fall Invitational. The two-day, three-round event will take place on October 4-5.
The 54-hole tournament will be played at the Highland Country Club with the teams teeing off for 36 holes on Monday with a shotgun start, while the final 18 holes will be held on Tuesday. The course dates back nearly a century and is considered a challenge to players of all skill levels, while also being enjoyable to play.
Indiana State is coming off its best finish of the early 2021-22 season at this past weekend's F&M Bank APSU Intercollegiate. The Sycamores finished fifth overall in the field paced by top finishes from
Lauren Green (3rd) and
Kristen Hobbs (T-12th), while
Madison Branum recorded ISU's first round under par this year on the tournament's final day.
Green has been the Sycamores top finisher in the 2021-22 season and enters the week as the reigning Missouri Valley Conference Golfer of the Week. The Merseyside, England native has posted back-to-back top-10 finishes this fall with matching 74-73-73's to sit among the conference scoring leaders in the season. In her most recent outing, Green finished among the tournament leaders in both par-3 and par-5 scoring on her way to the third-place finish at the F&M Bank APSU Intercollegiate.
Hobbs is also coming off one of her best outings of the season as the sophomore moved up five spots to finish tied for 12th overall in the field. She moved up five positions over the final day at The Legacy Golf Course with a final-round 74 with a pair of birdies, while also sitting as the team leader in par-4 scoring.
Branum will make her debut in the Sycamores starting lineup this weekend as the junior looks to build off her strongest individual round in the Blue & White. The Lexington, S.C. native posted a trio of birdies over the front-nine holes and played a mostly clean back-nine on her way to a season-low 70 (-2). She made the most strides in the Sycamores lineup this past weekend moving up 17 spots on the final day in the individual standings.
Head Coach
Greg Towne is also sending out
Chelsea Morrow and
Iyoun Chew in the starting lineup this week as the duo will see their third action of the 2021 season. Morrow is coming off a top-20 finish of her own placing 19th at the APSU Intercollegiate, while Chew tied for 35th overall following her three rounds on the course.
For the second consecutive tournament, the Sycamores will also send two individuals to compete within the field.
Molly Lee and
Grace Welty will also represent Indiana State over the two-day event.
