Sycamores Fall to Youngstown State, but Beat Butler in Walk-Off Fashion

Memphis, Tenn. – Indiana State softball split day two of the Memphis Tournament, falling to Youngstown State, 4-3 and defeating Butler, 9-5 in walk-off fashion by a grand slam from Annie Tokarek. Indiana State is now 10-12 on the season.
  
Game One – Youngstown State 4, Indiana State 3
The Sycamore fell to Youngstown State by a walk off single in the bottom of the seventh inning. Abbey Kruzel was charged with the loss, throwing 6.1 innings allowing four runs on seven hits.
 
Indiana State would score two runs in the top of the first. Leslie Sims lead off the game with a single and stole second. Becky Malchow followed her with a single of her own, then Amanda Guercio drew a four-pitch walk loading the bases for the Trees. Sims would score the first run of the day on a wild pitch from Youngstown State. Bella Peterson drew a walk, loading the bases back up for ISU. Annie Tokarek hit the SAC fly to right field bringing in Becky Malchow for the second run of the inning and the trees were out to an early 2-0 lead.
 
In the bottom of the third, the Penguins would respond with a three-run home run taking the lead, 3-2.
 
Amanda Guercio continued to stay hot; she smoked her second home run of the season over the center field wall, tying the game at three runs a piece in the top of the fifth.
 
In the top of the seventh, the Trees loaded the bases; Becky Malchow was hit by a pitch, while Annie Tokarek and Mallory Marsicek drew back-to-back walks, but Indiana State couldn't capitalize.
 
Youngstown State would string two hits together in the bottom of the seventh to earn the walk-off victory, 4-3.
 
Game 2 – Indiana State 9, Butler 5
Arielle Blankenship was credited with the win, throwing 0.1 inning in relief getting the last out of the top of the seventh, to set up the walk-off in the bottom of the inning for the Sycamores.
 
Annie Tokarek smoked her sixth home run of the season in the bottom of the fourth inning giving Indiana State the 1-0 lead.
 
Butler responed with a home run of their own from Elyse Babb in the top of the sixth, to tie the game up at one run a piece.
 
Indiana State bounced back in the bottom of the inning; Bella Peterson led off the inning with a single, and Mallory Marsicek brought her in to score with an RBI double to left center. TeAnn Bringle came up with two outs, smoking her second home run of the season, propelling the Trees to a 4-1 lead over the Bulldogs.
 
Butler responded with four runs in the top of the seventh, taking the lead over the trees, 5-4.
 
Indiana State only needed two runs in order to pull of the walk-off win. Leslie Sims led off the inning with an infield single and Beck Malchow followed her with a single of her own. Amanda Guercio singled up the middle to tie the game at five a piece. Bella Peterson was intentionally walked, to load the bases for Annie Tokarek. Tokarek called the game on the first pitch of her at bat with a grand slam to center field to complete the walk-off win over Butler, 9-5.
