MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Indiana State softball earned their second victory in a row to cap off tournament season. They defeated Western Carolina, 7-1.
Arielle Blankenship (4-3) was dominate in the circle earning her fourth win of the season in the complete game performance. Blankenship only gave up one run on four hits with four strikeouts.
Indiana State (10-12) jumped out to an early lead to start the game scoring in the first inning.
Leslie Sims led off the inning with a double. Sims scored while
Becky Malchow reached on an error by Western Carolina.
Bella Peterson's groundout brought in Malchow, bringing the trees to an early, 2-0 lead.
Western Carolina (3-10) answered in the bottom of the third inning with a run of their own via an RBI double.
In the top of the fourth,
Bella Peterson led off the inning with a walk.
Annie Tokarek continued her hitting streak and singled through the left side.
Mallory Marsicek laid down the SAC bunt, and Peterson scored on a WCU throwing error.
Becky Gibbs delivered a 2-run single up the middle and
Leslie Sims singled to bring in Gibbs, extending the Trees lead, 6-1.
Annie Tokarek blasted her eighth home run of the season over the left field wall propelling the Sycamores to the 7-1 victory.
