TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- In an effort to assist the Indiana State University community as well as the Wabash Valley, Sycamore Athletics has teamed up with locally owned McDonald's restaurants to provide free food to ISU and Vigo County School Corporation students. ISU students are currently off campus in online classes while the Vigo County School Corporation is closed until at least May 1 due to concerns related to the spread of COVID-19. For many in the Wabash Valley, the hot meals provided by the school corporation during breakfast and lunch is the only hot meal these children receive each day.
Thanks to our local McDonalds, owned and operated my Nick and Jami Kasprzyk, Sycamore Athletics is able to distribute almost 2000 coupons for a free double cheeseburger or a free 10 piece Chicken McNuggets to ISU students and students from the Vigo County School Corporation. These coupons were originally planned to be used at Sycamore Baseball home games for game promotions through their athletic sponsorship with Sycamore Athletics.
All Sycamore spring athletics competitions for the remainder of the academic year were canceled on the evening of March 13 following a unanimous league-wide vote of Missouri Valley Conference university presidents.
These coupons are traditionally given out to Sycamore students and fans during Sycamore Baseball home games for winning in-game promotions or as attendance incentives. Now they will be distributed to Indiana State University students remaining in the area who need meal assistance as well as in the hot lunches provided during this time by the Vigo County School Corporation,
The locally-owned McDonalds, who is new to the sponsorship program, has been providing free food for the entire academic year including the Big Mac Sack promotion, free French fries at men's and women's basketball home games and the coupons at Sycamore Baseball.
Sycamore Athletics encourages all those who support us to use the delivery and carry out services of our locally-owned restaurant sponsors.
