NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Indiana State softball stayed hot defeating tournament host Lipscomb, 8-6 behind a five run seventh inning, to earn their third straight victory.
Indiana State (8-10) jumped out to an early lead to start the game scoring in the first inning.
Leslie Sims led off the inning legging out an infield single. Sims advanced to second on
Becky Malchow's groundout.
Bella Peterson drew the two-out walk and
TeAnn Bringle got hit by a pitch setting up the bases loaded wild pitch, scoring Sims.
Lipscomb (9-8) answered in the bottom of the third inning with back-to-back solo homeruns to take the lead over the Trees, 2-1. The Bison use a hit by pitch and back-to-back singles to load the bases with no outs and drew a walk, and an RBI single bringing in two more runs and extending their lead, 4-1.
In the bottom of the third,
Annie Tokarek would hit a two out single, and
Mallory Marsicek would draw the two out walk.
Olivia Patton came in clutch bringing in
Kristen Kelly, the pinch runner, from second base cutting the Bison lead in half.
Jenna Endris lead off the bottom of the fifth, with her second home run of the game extending the Bison lead, 5-2.
Annie Tokarek stayed hot for the Sycamores; she smacked her fourth home run of the tournament in the top of the sixth inning pulling the Trees within two runs of the Bison, 5-3.
The Sycamores used a five run seventh inning to propel them to an 8-6 win.
Leslie Sims drew a one out walk, and
Becky Malchow followed her with a single to start the Indiana State rally.
Amanda Guercio delieverd a one-run double bringing in
Leslie Sims.
Bella Peterson smoked her second home run this season with a three-run bomb giving the Trees the 7-5 lead.
Kaylee Barrett pinch hit and creamed her first hit of the season with a double.
Mallory Marsicek hit Barrett in with a single to left field helping ISU to the victory.
Lexi Benko (3-0) earned her third career win for the Sycamores. The freshman allowed two runs on five hits with one walk and one strikeout. Emily Yakubowski (0-5) took the loss for Lipscomb after allowing eight runs on ten hits with three walks and one strikeout in 6.1 innings of work.
