BOCA RATON, Fla. - Becky Gibbs went 1-for-3 and had the game winning RBI double as Indiana State opened the 2020 season with a 2-1 win over #25 Wisconsin on Friday night under the lights at the FAU First Pitch Classic.
 
The Sycamores (1-0) never trailed but needed at least one run in the seventh inning to secure the win, after Wisconsin (0-1) tied the game up in the bottom of the sixth.
 
TeAnn Bringle (2-for-3) was the lone Sycamore to record multiple hits. Leslie Sims, Becky Malchow, Annie Tokarek, Bella Peterson, Olivia Patton, and Becky Gibbs all recorded one hit.
 
Indiana State scored first in the top of the third inning when Amanda Guercio executed a picture perfect squeeze bringing Becky Gibbs home.
 
The Badgers made it interesting in the bottom of the sixth by taking advantage of two stolen bases and eventually knotting the game up at one.
 
In the top of the seventh TeAnn Bringle led off the inning with a single and then Olivia Patton laid down the sacrifice bunt to advance Bringle. This brought up Becky Gibbs, and the senior delivered the game-winning RBI double to push the Sycamores ahead in the top of the seventh.
 
Gabbi Schnaiter was credited with the win (1-0) in a complete game performance, allowing one run on four hits with five walks and nine strikeouts.
 
Haley Hestekin (0-1) was charged with the loss in a complete game performance for Wisconsin, allowing two runs (one earned) on eight hits with no walks and one strikeout.
