Indiana State Earns a 6-5 Victory Over SIU Edwardsville

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Indiana State softball defeated SIU Edwardsville in the night cap, 6-5 behind a game-winning triple from Leslie Sims in the bottom of the sixth.
 
Arielle Blankenship (1-3) was dominant in relief earning the win for the Sycamores as she helped guide ISU to their seventh victory of the season. The junior allowed seven hits with four strikeouts for the Sycamores (7-10) over 3.2 innings of action.
 
SIU Edwardsville (9-3) jumped out to an early lead to start the game scoring their first run of the contest via an Indiana State error.
 
The Sycamores answered in the bottom of the inning tying the game at one. Bella Peterson delivered with the RBI single scoring Leslie Sims after she led off the game with an infield single and stole second on the next pitch to move into scoring position.
 
The Cougars added four runs in the top of the second with the help of two ISU errors and a two-run home run off the left field foul pole.
 
Annie Tokarek stayed hot at the plate blasting her third home run of the day with a solo shot in the bottom of the second to pull the Trees within three runs.
 
In the bottom of the third, the Blue & White put up a two-spot pulling within a run of the Cougars. Leslie Sims led off the inning with her second hit of the day. Amanda Guercio then drew a walk to set up Bella Peterson. Peterson drove them in with a two-run double down the left field line.
 
The Trees bats stayed hot; Olivia Patton legged out an infield single in the bottom of the sixth. Lexie Siwek reached on a throwing error by the Cougars. Leslie Sims would deliver what would be the game winning two-run triple down the left field as the Trees took the lead for good, 6-5.
 
Gabbi Schnaiter came in and shut the door for the Trees in one inning of work recording one strikeout earning her first save of the season.

Lexi King (1-2) took the loss for the Cougars after allowing two runs on two hits with two walks and three strikeouts in two innings of work.
