BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Indiana State Softball team came up short against Ball State losing 7-5. The Sycamores had a four-run lead, and the Cardinals used a six-run bottom of the seventh to win in walk-off fashion.
The Sycamores scored first in the bottom of the third inning as
TeAnn Bringle lead off with a solo home run for her first career homerun over the left field wall.
Leslie Sims singled with one out, then
Amanda Guercio doubled to left center scoring Sims and the Trees had an early 2-0 lead.
Becky Malchow and
Amanda Guercio lead off the fifth inning with back-to-back singles and
Bella Peterson walked setting up
Mallory Marsicek for the SAC fly bringing in Malchow.
Ball State answered with an RBI single in the bottom of the fifth to get on the board.
Indiana State added another run on a passed ball by the Cardinals and a SAC bunt from
Mallory Marsicek to extend their lead 5-1, going into the top of the seventh.
Ball State came out hot in the bottom of the seventh. The first batter of the inning reached on an error, and the next Cardinal came up and hit a two-run home run to pull them within two-runs. Ball State got two runners on base via a hit by pitch and a single. An RBI double brought them within one run. The next batter hit a three-run home run to cap off the five-run inning two win in walk-off fashion.
Arielle Blankenship (0-3) was charged with the loss in 0.2 inning of work allowing four runs on three hits with no walks and no strikeouts. Deborah Jones (4-1) was credited with the win for Ball State allowing three runs on three hits with three walks and one strikeout in 4.0 innings of work.
