INDIANA STATE NOTES | SOUTHERN ILLINOIS NOTES
NOTES
- The Series: Indiana State and Southern Illinois meet for the 94th time on Friday with SIU holding a 48-45 advantage in the series. SIU won the first matchup this season on January 26, 78-55, in Terre Haute.
- A Win Would: A win on Saturday would snap the Sycamores' two-game losing skid to Southern Illinois and even the MVC regular season series between the two squads, 37-37. A victory would also pull head coach Vicki Hall back to .500 against the Salukis at 2-2.
- Newcomer of the Week: Jamyra McChristine was named the Missouri Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week thanks to her performance on the court last weekend. The junior averaged 23 points and 8.5 boards per game, helping the Sycamores to upset Northern Iowa and compete with Drake.
- Junior Leadership: Sycamore junior Jamyra McChristine played a key role in the upset against UNI on Thursday and the drastic improvement against Drake on Saturday. On Thursday, McChristine led the Trees with 24 points and nine rebounds and then on Saturday she put up 22 points to go along with eight boards. Her 22 points against the Bulldogs were the most scored by a Sycamore against drake since Bilqis Abdul-Qaadir put up 26 on January 5, 2014.
- Streak Broken: The Sycamores shocked the Valley on Thursday evening, taking down Northern Iowa in the Hulman Center, 65-63 after trailing by eight in the fourth quarter. It was Indiana State's first win over the Panthers since March 8, 2014 when ISU earned an 85-72 victory in Cedar Falls. The victory also speaks to the improvement that the Trees have made throughout the season, as UNI defeated ISU in Cedar Falls in January by 30 points.
