Sycamores Make Quick Weekend Trip to Bloomington for IU Relays

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Sycamore track & field will make the quick trip to Bloomington, Ind. this weekend to compete against some of the nation's best athletes at the IU Relays.

  • Last Time Out: The Sycamore men and women were both picked up wins last weekend at the John Gartland Invitational. Indiana State's men tallied an impressive 293 points at the invitational, running away from Valparaiso (102), Evansville (42), Bradley (28) and Northern Kentucky (21). On the women's side, the Sycamores defeated Northern Illinois in a close battle, 182-179, and also defeated Northern Kentucky (66), Valparaiso (51), Evansville (17) and Bradley (2).
  • 'High Jump U': The Sycamore high jumpers, led by legendary coach John Gartland, have had a stellar season through three meets. The Sycamore men have swept the top-three positions in the high jump in each of their first three meets, including two individual victories by Nick Schutlz. On the women's side, Kelsey Bowlds recorded the eighth-best mark in school history of 1.73m (5-08.00) at the John Gartland Invite, which is now 47th nationally.
  • Female MVC Track Athlete of the Week: Imani Davis led the mid-distance runners for the Sycamore women at the John Gartland Invitational on Saturday. The senior was victorious for the second time this season in the 800-meter run, clocking a Valley leading time of 2:14.73, which converts to 2:13.20 in the Valley standings. Her time not only puts her atop the conference, but it leads the MVC by over two seconds. She was also the anchor of the MVC-leading 4X400-meter relay team that clocked a time of 3:50.54 which converts to 3:48.91, also a nearly two second lead over the rest of the Valley.
  • Male MVC Track Athlete of the Week: Matthew Lewis-Banks had an impressive weekend of competition at the John Gartland Invitational. The sophomore hurdler claimed his third win in as many tries in the 60-meter hurdles, clocking a time of 8.01. His time of 7.92 from the Coughlan/Malloy Cup is still first in the Valley and 43rd nationally. In addition to winning the hurdles, he also was victorious in the 60-meter dash with a time of 6.92, a personal-best and eighth-best time in the MVC, and was a member of the winning 4X400-meter relay team that finished with a time of 3:21.65, giving him three victories on Saturday.
