INDIANA STATE NOTES

NOTES
  • At the Starting Line: Indiana State will continue the 2020 indoor season this Friday when they travel to Illinois State for the Coughlan/Malloy Cup at Horton Field House. The Redbirds captured the 2019 victory, making that two in a row for Illinois State for the first time in series history.
  • A Historic Series: The Coughlan-Malloy cup, named for legendary head coaches Bill Malloy (Indiana State) and John Coughlan (Illinois State), is unique due to the fact that men's scores and women's scores aren't separated, but combined and the winner has the highest combined score. Indiana State is 12-3 since the series started in 2005, falling only to the Redbirds in 2006, 2018 and 2019. In individual competition, the men have only fallen in 2006, 2018 and 2019 and the women in 2012 and 2019. Last season the Redbirds were victorious with a total score of 173-150 (88-73 ILS men; 85-77 ILS women). Illinois State is hosting the Coughlan/Malloy Cup for the first time since 2012.
  • Last Time Out: Both Sycamore track and field teams were victorious at the ISU Early Bird on Dec. 7, with the men earning 155 points to take down Marian (91) and Chicago State (16) while the women earned 159 points, defeating Marian (81) and Chicago State (43). The men's team walked away with 12 individual victories while the women were also dominant with 12.
  • MVC Preseason Poll: The Illinois State women were picked atop the Missouri Valley Conference once again after sweeping the indoor and outdoor championships last season. The Redbirds locked-up all 10 first-place votes en route to a unanimous 100 total. Indiana State and Southern Illinois were tied for second in the poll, both earning 83 votes. On the men's side, Illinois State was picked to finish first, but by a much smaller margin, earning 76 votes and five first-place votes. UNI earned four first-place votes and 74 total votes for second while the Sycamore men were chosen third with 64 points.
