TERRE HAUTE, Ind.  – Indiana State used early second half scoring on a pair of underclassmen's goals to take a lead and then a pair of seniors slammed the door late as the Sycamores earned a 3-0 Senior Day victory over visiting Purdue Fort Wayne in front of 225 fans inside Memorial Stadium.
Indiana State improved to 2-6-1 on the season while Purdue Fort Wayne fell to 4-3-2.
Freshman
Kate Face scored in the 56
th minute off a breakaway goal to stake the Sycamores to a 1-0 advantage. Face took a long pass and was able to sneak past the defense and beat the goalkeeper one-on-one by pushing the ball into the back of the net.
Sophomore
Jensen Margheim found the back of the net in the 75
th minute with a shot from 25 yards out which fired past the goalkeeper and pushed the Indiana State lead out to 2-0.
After the underclassmen took care of business, then senior
Katie Sidloski tacked on her second goal of the season in the 84
th minute when she took a ricochet from senior
Kayla Trinka inside the penalty box and fired the ball into the back of the net to give Indiana State the 3-0 victory.
Finally, senior
Hannah Sullivan posted a shutout and recorded three saves in the victory. She now has 148 career saves – which is fifth-best in the history of the program.
Indiana State held a 20-15 edge in shots, including a 10-3 cushion in shots on goal. Purdue Fort Wayne had the 3-1 advantage in corner kicks.
The Sycamores were led in shots by Margheim and Face – who each also broke through with a score. Cece Wahlberg tallied four shots in the match while
Katie Sidloski had two shots each.
Face led the way with three shots on goal while Margheim and Sidloski had two each.
The Sycamores open Missouri Valley Conference play on Saturday, September 28 when they host in-state rival Evansville at 7 pm (ET) inside Memorial Stadium. Admission to the game is free and the game will air live on ESPN3.
