Sycamores Fall To Detroit At Memorial Stadium

TERRE HAUTE, Ind.  – Detroit Mercy scored three times in the opening 45 minutes en route to a 3-1 victory over the Sycamores on Friday night at Memorial Stadium.
Indiana State fell to 1-6 on the season while Detroit Mercy improved to 2-3-1.

Jensen Margheim and Celeste Wahlberg led the way for the Sycamores with four and eight shots, including three on goal for Margheim and four for Wahlberg. The Sycamores held a 23-13 edge in shots as well as a 13-6 edge in shots on goal.

Wahlberg scored in the 86th minute on a strike from 20 yards out to cut the Detroit lead down to 3-1.

Detroit Mercy scored just 68 seconds into the match when Julia Ann Piechocki scored off a corner kick and the ball sailed over everyone and into the lower right corner of the net.

Jensen Marghiem took three shots, including one on goal as the Sycamores looked to secure the equalizer.

Sofia Bellaire pushed the UDM lead out to 2-0 in the 29th minute when she scored across the penalty box off the assist from Hailey Wentzloff. The Titans scored for the third time in the opening 45 minutes when in the 35th minute, Wentzloff found Emily Lorkowski for the 3-0 advantage that they would take into halftime.

The Sycamores continue this season-long five-match home stand as they host Belmont on Sunday, September 15 at 1 pm (ET) inside the friendly confines of Memorial Stadium. The game is scheduled for national broadcast on ESPN+.
