TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The Sycamores and Milwaukee battled to a scoreless tie in the first half before the Panthers broke through with a pair of second half goals en route to a 2-0 victory in front of 225 people inside Memorial Stadium.
The Sycamores fell to 0-3 on the season while Milwaukee improved to 3-0.
Milwaukee scored first in the match off a free kick from 25 yards out by Jelena Sever in the 50
th minute to give the Panthers a 1-0 advantage. The goal came on Milwaukee's 12
th shot of the contest and their third on goal. In the 60
th minute, Sever pushed the Panther lead out to 2-0 as she used a sliding kick shot in front of the goal off the assist from Gaby Schwartz.
Celeste Wahlberg put a shot on goal for the Sycamores in the 70
th minute but the ball was stopped short of the goal on a save by goalkeeper Allie Strottman.
Jensen Margheim took a shot in the 80
th minute which sailed just high of the framework.
Milwaukee recorded the first six shots of the opening stanza when in the 26
th minute
Alise Emser connected on the Sycamores' first shot on goal in the 26
th minute on a long strike attempt. It would prove to be ISU's only scoring attempt of the opening 45 minutes as the Panthers held a 10-1 edge in shots before intermission.
The Panthers held a 16-10 edge in shots while Milwaukee held a 5-4 advantage in shots on goal at 5-4. Milwaukee held a 4-2 edge in corner kicks.
Wahlberg led the way for the Sycamores with five shots in the game, including a three of which came on goal. Margheim, Emser and Holcombe each added shots as well. The youth movement for the Sycamores continued as all eight shots in the contest came from sophomores or younger.
The two-game weekend homestand continues on Sunday, September 1 when the Sycamores host SIU Edwardsville inside the friendly confines of Memorial Stadium. Kick-off is set for 1 pm (ET) and the match will be nationally televised on ESPN+.
