ST. LOUIS – Despite a late first half goal from
Katie Sidloski and a career high eight saves from senior goalkeeper
Hannah Sullivan, the Sycamores were unable to find a second half equalizer and fell to Saint Louis by the score of 2-1 on a rainy afternoon at Hermann Stadium.
ISU fell to 0-2 on the season while the Billikens leveled their season mark at 1-1.
Katie Sidloski got the Sycamores on the board in the 43
rd minute after Indiana State had given up a pair of earlier goals. The ball ran free and loose from the Billiken goalkeeper and Sidloski pounced on the opportunity by taking the ball just outside of the penalty box and gave it a slight kick into the back right corner of the net to draw ISU within one at 2-1.
Sophia Denison opened the scoring for SLU in the 9
th minute when her header snuck past the end line despite a valiant diving effort to make a back save by sophomore
Sarah Clancy. Then the Billikens scored their second goal in the 21
st minute when Hannah Friedrich made a shot over a crowd plus the outstretched hands of
Hannah Sullivan into the top right of the framework to push the Saint Louis lead out to 2-0.
Saint Louis held a commanding 20-3 edge in shots, including an 11-1 advantage in shots on goal. Sullivan was busy in goal as she set a career high by making eight saves in the contest.
Sidloski,
Danielle Varner and
Jensen Margheim each posted shots for the Sycamores. The Billikens owned a 5-0 edge in corner kicks.
The Sycamores will open the home portion of the schedule on Friday, August 30 when they host Milwaukee in a non-conference contest. Kick-off is set for 7 pm (ET) and will be televised nationally on ESPN+. Admission to all Indiana State soccer contests are free.
