LEXINGTON, Ky. - The Indiana State Women's Volleyball program has earned the American Volleyball Coaches Association All-Academic Award for the 21st consecutive season, the longest active streak in the NCAA, the AVCA announced on Monday.
 
"I am so proud of what the past and current Sycamores have established here in the classroom with their continued success," head coach Lindsay Allman said. "I hope others can truly understand how large of an honor this is every year and that our players take a lot of pride in this achievement. This is something no other program can say. All of the recognition belongs to our players, both past and present here, and I know this team will continue to do their part to keep the streak alive."
 
In addition to owning the longest streak in the nation, the Sycamores' 21 total awards are tied with Morehead State for the most in the NCAA, however the Eagles' streak sits only at 11. Bowling Green and Toledo are tied for the second longest streak in the country, each with 19 consecutive awards. The Trees are one of 189 Division I women's teams to earn the honor, an increase of 25 teams from a year ago.
 
A total of nine Missouri Valley Conference volleyball teams were honored by the AVCA as recipients of the AVCA Team Academic Award for the 2018-19 season, part of a record-breaking 1,125 programs to earn the distinction.
 
The award, which was initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 cumulative team GPA on a 5.0 scale. The blue and white recorded a GPA of 3.52 for last academic year.
 
The AVCA Team Academic Award is the single largest award offered by quantity of schools, players and coaches honored. Since the 2000-2001 season, the number of recipients has increased every single year but two, while more than doubling the total over the last eight academic years. Since the award's inception in 1993, the amount of award winners has increased from 62 to its current number of 1,125.
