TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Indiana State will open the 2019 Missouri Valley Conference Softball Championship Wednesday as the ninth-seeded Sycamores face No. 8 seed Loyola Chicago in Peoria.
Â
The game, the first of the four-day long tournament that will determine the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament, is set to begin at 5 p.m. ET (4 p.m. CT). All tournament games will be broadcast live on The Valley on ESPN (ESPN+).
Â
Tournament History
Indiana State enters this week's action having won seven of its last 10 games in the MVC Tournament including going 1-1 last year. Wednesday's contest will mark the first time the Sycamores and the Ramblers will meet in the postseason.

Three Things to Know
- Double Vision
Indiana State continues to be the standard bearer defensively for the Missouri Valley Conference. The Sycamores lead the league and rank 38th nationally with 23 double plays this year (0.45 per game). That is the fourth-most number of double plays an Indiana State team has ever turned in a single season.
- Stop 'Em In Their Tracks
Brooke Mann is one of the most effective catchers in the MVC – and has one of the most dangerous arms. Mann leads the MVC having thrown out 17 runners attempting to steal this season, a mark that also sets a new single season record at Indiana State. That breaks her old record of 15 runners caught stealing set back in 2017.
- Among National Leaders in Efficiency
When the Trees run, expect a theft. Indiana State leads the Valley and ranks 17th in the nation with a .902 successful stolen base percentage this year with 83 steals on 92 attempts. That not only ranks 17th nationally but is also better than all but one Big Ten team and better than eight of the SEC's 13 programs.
