TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Home runs were the story of the opening game in Missouri Valley Conference play for Indiana State and Northern Iowa.
Brooke Mann hit her 12

Mann's solo shot over the left field fence in the third inning moved her into a tie for sixth all-time at Indiana State in career home runs with Audrey Childress (2007-09) and marked her second blast of the season. But that dinger cut the deficit to 2-1 after UNI (10-9, 1-0) opened the game with back-to-back shots.
The chance of a comeback win remained for Indiana State (9-11, 0-1) and might have even succeeded as the Sycamores scored two runs on successive plays in the sixth; an
Amanda Guercio RBI groundout to score
Bella Peterson then
Shaye Barton scoring in the next at bat thanks to one of Northern Iowa's two errors. But the Panthers had already padded their lead with four runs in the top half of the inning with a three-run home run by Brittney Krodinger – her second of the day - that followed an earlier run as UNI led off with a double followed by an RBI single.
