Indiana State Falls to Panthers in Doubleheader Nightcap

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Mallory Marsicek was 2-for-3 with two RBI and Leslie Sims was 2-for-3 but saw an impressive streak come to an end Saturday as Indiana State dropped the second game of a doubleheader to Northern Iowa, 10-3, at Price Field.

Sims had gone 105 consecutive games without getting caught stealing but saw her streak come to an end after an unsuccessful delayed steal in the first inning. For two innings that loomed large as the first full frame came to an end in a 3-3 tie.

But the three runs put up early on would be the only runs the Sycamores (9-12, 0-2 Missouri Valley) could muster in the game. Meanwhile, Northern Iowa (11-9, 2-0), a team that has scored five or more runs now in five straight games, kept the hot bats going and took advantage of three Sycamore errors in the game. UNI would use two big innings – a four-run third inning followed by a three-run seventh – to extend the lead and put the game out of reach.

The Panthers were led by Sammey Bunch's 2-for-3 performance with two RBI and a run scored while Ashley Chesser mimicked those same numbers. Brooke Craig (4-2) was credited with the win after entering in the second inning and throwing 66 pitches over six innings, allowing no runs on four hits.

Tessa Sims (1-2) was charged with the loss after allowing four runs – two earned – on three hits in two innings.

Sunday's final game of the three-game Missouri Valley Conference series has been changed to a Noon ET start.

PLAYER OF THE GAME
Mallory Marsicek brings home the honors as she was 2-for-3 at the plate, drove in two of ISU's three runs, made two putouts of her own and was credited with three assists.

STAT OF THE GAME
Sycamore batters only struck out once in the game. That's the fewest ISU has had strikeout in the past seven games.
