Schnaiter Shuts Down Vikings in One-Hit Complete Game Shutout

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Gabbi Schnaiter was masterful in the circle, nearly perfect, as she tossed a one-hit complete game shutout in a 3-0 win over Cleveland State, striking out eight batters along the way.

Schnaiter (2-0) did not allow a walk and retired 15 consecutive batters before a double by Alyssa Rose in the sixth inning gave Cleveland State (1-4) its only runner of the game.

Indiana State (6-2) put runners on base in every inning but it took until the fourth inning before the Sycamores would get a run across to break open the scoreless tie. Bella Peterson and Shaye Barton led off the inning with back-to-back doubles, the latter of which sent Peterson across the plate. Two batters later, Mallory Marsicek plated Barton on a squeeze play, pushing the Sycamore lead to two.

The final run of the game came in the sixth inning when Rebecca Gibbs' fielder's choice scored Alexis McCullough from second. Indiana State had opportunities to win by an even bigger margin but stranded eight runners on base in the game, matching a season-high.

Kelly Hysong (0-1) was charged with the loss after her complete game performance allowed three runs on seven hits. She walked three and only struck out one.

PLAYER OF THE GAME
