Schnaiter Deals Again with Complete Game Shutout of Butler

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – You could say it was Gabbi Schnaiter's day. Not only did she toss a complete game shutout of Butler in a 5-0 win for Indiana State, she was named the Missouri Valley Conference's Newcomer of the Week for her last outing, also a complete game shutout.

The honor was announced in the middle of the fifth inning as Schnaiter (3-0) faced bases with just one out. Then she showed why the league was recognizing her as she forced an infield fly then struck out the final batter of the threat. Butler (6-8) would only manage one additional base runner in the game and she wouldn't get past first base.

In the end, Schnaiter allowed just four hits, walked three and struck out five. Indiana State (7-2) gave her plenty of support from the start, scoring four first-inning runs and only allowing three runners throughout the game to get into scoring position. Schnaiter has now tossed 18 1/3 consecutive scoreless innings.

Bailey Martin led the Sycamore offense with a 3-for-4 performance at the plate with an RBI and a run scored. She was one of two Sycamores with a double, along with Riley Hecklinski. Bella Peterson was 2-for-3 in the game with a run scored and two RBI.

Alyssa Graves (2-2) was charged with the loss for Butler after allowing four runs on five hits. She did not record a strikeout and only faced six batters. Christina Candotti recorded two of Butler's four hits in a 2-for-3 performance.

PLAYER OF THE GAME
Gabbi Schnaiter continued to impress in the circle. She recorded her second consecutive shutout, worked out of a tough jam in the fifth facing bases loaded with just one out and went the distance yet again. All this against her former team (Schnaiter transferred to Indiana State this season following two years at Butler). She has now tossed 18 1/3 consecutive scoreless innings.

STAT OF THE GAME
Schnaiter and the Sycamore defense kept Butler continuously trying to work out of a hole, retiring six of the seven Bulldog leadoff hitters in the game.
