TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Indiana State women's golf head coach
Greg Towne announced today (Dec. 10) that he has signed two student-athletes of a national letter of intent and they will both join the program in time for the 2020-2021 campaign.
Those signing today are Lizzie Bickar (Tallmadge, Ohio/Tallmadge HS) and Grace Welty (Westerville Ohio/Westerville Central HS).Â
Lizzie Bicker is a four-year varsity letterwinner from Tallmadge High School where she began golfing as a freshman. She played on the Hurricane Junior Tour and qualified for the Optimist International Junior Golf Championship. She is a two-time first team all-league and two-time individual district qualifier. She holds the Tallmadge High School record for low nine and 18 hole scores.
Bickar is a member of the National Honor Society and has been named a Distinguished Scholar and Scholar-Athlete. She maintains a 4.2 grade point average and is a member of the yearbook staff. She also plays high school basketball where she is a four-year varsity player and has captured first team all-league honors and second team all-tri county plaudits twice.
She is the daughter of Brett and Erin Bickar and has an older brother Nate. She enjoys spending time with her dog, Brady.Â
Grace Welty a four-year varsity player for Westerville Central High School, in Westerville, Ohio. She played No. 1 player her junior and senior years and earned Player of the Year for the Division 1, Ohio Capital Conference (OCC) Buckeye Division her senior year. She was first team OCC her junior and senior years as well as All District Honorable Mention her junior year and All District Second Team her senior year. Grace was named Scholar Athlete for Westerville Central all 4 years of high school and her senior year earned Scholar Athlete for the Central District Girls Golf Coaches Association. Grace started playing golf at a young age and has completed in numerous tournaments over the years in Ohio and the surrounding states, with Golf Week Junior Tour and Southern Ohio PGA Junior Tour.Â
In addition to playing golf, Grace has been active in Young Life all through high school. During her junior year, she started a fundraising effort, Pars for a Purpose, in order to support a local charity Freedom a la Cart which helps survivors of human trafficking. Today, Pars for a Purpose has raised more than $20,000 by Grace obtaining sponsors to donate for every par/birdie she earns during her golf seasons.
Grace is the daughter of Kyle and Amy Welty.
The Sycamores opens the spring portion of their schedule on March 1-3 when they travel to South Carolina to take part in the Kiawah Island Spring Classic.
