Purple Aces Sweep Sycamores on Friday

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Evansville evened-up the season series with the Sycamores on Friday, sweeping the blue and white in Evansville on Friday evening.
 
Offensively, three Sycamores finished with eight kills to lead the team. Cassie Kawa, Gretchen Kuckkan and Madelin Williams all earned eight kills while Kuckkan also added eight digs to her evening total.
 
Freshman setter Chloe Mason led the blue and white with 17 assists while also adding nine digs. Similar to the rest of the season, Mary Hannah Lewis helped split the workload, recording 14 assists and four digs.
 
As a team, ISU ended with 37 kills on .125 hitting compared to 50 kills and .237 hitting from the Purple Aces. Evansville also held the edge in assists, 36-46.
 
Melina Tedrow passed the 20-dig threshold for the 13th time this season, leading the Sycamores with 22 of the team's 62 digs. ISU was tough at the net as well, finishing with seven total blocks and getting five block assists each from Nikkie White and Williams.
 
UE ended the evening with 73 digs and 9 total blocks, getting 24 digs from Gabriela Macedo who currently leads the Valley in digs-per-set.
 
Indiana State returns home next weekend to host Southern Illinois and Missouri State in their final two home matches of the season. Next Saturday is also senior day for Cassie Kawa, Rhiannon Morozoff, Jade York and Alex Toombs.
 
Set One - Evansville 25, Indiana State 19
  • It was a tough offensive set for the blue and white, hitting just .023 with 10 kills.
  • White led the offense with three kills while Kawa and Williams added two each.
  • Both the Sycamores and Aces finished the frame with four block assists.
 
Set Two - Evansville 33, Indiana State 31
  • In a hectic set two, the Sycamores improved their hitting to .182 with 17 kills and were led by Kawa with four kills.
  • Mason recorded nine assists to lead the Trees in the assist category.
  • Tedrow had a huge defensive set for ISU, tallying 13 digs and pushing her total to 15.
  • Evansville recorded 22 kills in the frame on .226 hitting.
 
Set Three - Evansville 25, Indiana State 17
  • Evansville had their best offensive set of the night, hitting .333, while ISU continued to struggle, hitting .158.
  • Kuckkan had a stronger offensive set for the blue and white, earning three kills.
  • The Sycamores finished with 62 digs, with Tedrow pushing her total to 22 in the final set.
