Women’s Basketball Heads North for Tuesday Matchup with Illinois-Chicago

CHICAGO, Ill. – Indiana State women's basketball will trek north on Tuesday for an early afternoon matchup with the Illinois-Chicago Flames in Credit Union One Arena.

NOTES
  • The Series: Tuesday marks the 15th meeting between the Sycamores and the Flames in a series that the Sycamores lead, 11-3. The game on Tuesday will mark the third-straight season the teams have met, with ISU taking the victory last season, 60-53.
  • It Starts with Defense: The Sycamores have established themselves as one of the better defensive teams in the Valley early in the season, recording 27 steals through three games for an average of nine steals-per-game, the third-best in the MVC. Freshman Sommer Pitzer is also tied for the second-most steals in the league with seven, averaging 2.3 per-game.
  • Off the Bench: The Sycamore bench battled hard for the blue and white at Western Illinois on Thursday. Freshman Jasmine Elder and Pearl Dean provided a much-needed spark, scoring 20 and 14 points, respectively, while Elder also dished out three assists. As a team, the Sycamores outscored the Leathernecks 45-13 from the bench.
  • Respect Your Elder: Freshman Jasmine Elder had the best offensive game of any Sycamore this season against Western Illinois on Thursday. The Louisville native helped keep the blue and white within striking distance, scoring a career-high 20 points while also dishing out three assists and pulling down five rebounds. 
  • Road Warriors: The Sycamores will have to be road warriors to start off the 2019-20 season as Hulman Center is under renovation. Because of those renovations, ISU will spend nearly it's first month of the year and seven-straight games on the road before finally returning home to host Marshall in the Hulman Center on Tuesday, Dec. 3.
