SOUTH BEND, Ind. - The Indiana State Track and Field teams will split squad this weekend and send athletes to the Meyo Invitational at Notre Dame and the Indiana Wesleyan Midwest Classic.

Entering the weekend, the Sycamore women's team boasts a #19 national dual meet ranking with a record of 3-1, according to Track & Field News. The men and women are also both ranked 11th in the Great Lakes Region.

Both teams also own top-15 national Event Squad rankings. Event Squad rankings places a rank order to a program's "squad" of athletes in a particular event, using the cumulative season-best qualifying marks from a team's top-four ranked athletes on the national descending-order list. As with the national descending-order list for qualifying and seeding purposes, marks are subject to be converted due to track size and/or altitude. A team must have four or more athletes with a valid season-best mark recorded with TFRRS to achieve a ranking in a particular event.

The women's pentathlon squad is ranked sixth nationally with an average of 3,215 points, while the women's shot put comes in ranked at 17th with an average of 14.01m (45-11.75). On the men's side, the 60-meter hurdlers are 15th in the nation with an average time of 8.22.

Friday and Saturday will give ISU the opportunity to compete against some of the nation's best athletes at the Meyo Invitational. Freshman hurdler
Matthew Lewis-Banks achieved victory in the 60-meter hurdles for the Sycamore men at the Illini Invite last weekend, finishing atop the standing during both the preliminary and final rounds. During prelims, Lewis-Banks posted a time of 8.07 before breaking the eight second barrier in finals, winning with a time of 7.98. He owns the second-best time in the Missouri Valley Conference and is just .01 away from the top time.

Distance star
Akis Medrano will make his 5000-meter run debut on Friday evening. During his last outing, the senior placed third in the men's mile at the Illini Invite, clocking a time of 4:11.01 which is converted to 4:07.85, fourth in the Valley.

In the field for the men,
Dearis Herron will look to lead the blue and white in the long and triple jumps. At the Illini Invite, the sophomore taking silver in the long jump at 6.67m (21-10.75), falling only to Bryce McMurtry of Milwaukee. Herron's mark of 7.23m (23-08.75) from the Indiana State Early Bird is fourth in the conference. He also owns the fourth-best mark in the MVC in the triple jump at 14.18m (46-06.25).

Senior
Brooke Moore will be looking to break her own school-record of 4:43.04 in the mile run at the Meyo Invitational, a record she set at the 2017 Meyo Invitational. The Elkhart, Ind. native recorded the second-fastest time in the Mile in the conference of 4:48.20 from the
John Gartland Invitational. At the Illini Invitational, Moore continued her winning ways, holding off Illinois State's Rachel Hickey by .66 en route to victory with a time of 2:11.06 in the 800-meter run.

Erin Reese will look to lead the Trees in the women's weight throw, an event in which she has the fourth-overall toss in the nation of 21.81m (71-06.75). The redshirt senior placed second in the women's weight throw last Saturday with a mark of 20.64m (67-08.75), only finishing behind Makenli Forrest of Louisville.

Also in the field for the women will be
Cassaundra Roper who once again threw her way to the top spot in the shot put at the Illini Invite with a throw of 15.58m (51-01.50). Her mark of 15.66m (51-04.50) from the Coughlan-Malloy Cup is still at the top of the MVC and 32nd in the nation.

At the Indiana Wesleyan Midwest Classic, the pole vaulters will look to pace the ISU athletes. Freshman
Callan Whitehouse has the top vault for the men of 4.92m (16-01.75) from the
John Gartland Invitational, which is fourth in the Valley. Senior
Kim Jackson leads the women in the pole vault, also with the fourth-best mark in the conference at 3.67m (12-00.50).

Events are slated to begin at the Meyo Invitational on Friday evening at 4 p.m. ET with the women's long jump and weight throw. On Saturday, track events will start at 9:45 a.m. with field events to follow at 10:30 a.m. Events at Indiana Wesleyan on Saturday will begin at approximately 11 a.m.
