Cross Country appears in Great Lakes Regional Rankings for third consecutive week

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - The Indiana State men's and women's cross country teams both appear in the Great Lakes Regional rankings for the third consecutive week, the USTFCCCA announced Monday afternoon. The Sycamore men maintained their No. 11 ranking, while the women fell to No. 14 in the region.

The USTFCCA Regional Rankings are determined subjectively by a single member coach in each respective region. The regional representative is tasked with weighing returning teams' strength with current season results (if applicable) in determining predicted team finishes at the NCAA Regional Championships.

Indiana State will host the NCAA Great Lakes Regional Meet on November 9 at the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course.

Saturday was a strong day for the ISU men at the John McNichols Invitational, as the Sycamores placed second among nine teams, falling only to Purdue finished with 24 points. The men accumulated 95 points and defeated Bowling Green (97), Cincinnati (101), Akron (124), Milwaukee (137), Northern Kentucky (148) and Marshall (205).

For the second consecutive meet, Akis Medrano put on a spectacular performance to lead the ISU men in the 8K race. Making her first appearance at LaVern Gibson since 2016, Brooke Moore was the second scorer for ISU, placing 16th with a time of 18:45.7 and the 13th-fastest Sycamore time at LaVern Gibson in the 5K. Not far behind her was the freshman Jocelyn Quiles who took 19th overall, recording a time of 18:49.9 for the 15th overall 5K time by a Sycamore at LaVern Gibson. Also making her way into the record book was junior Michaela Ward. Ward took 20th at 18:52.3, which is tied with teammate Colleen Madden for the 16th-fastest time by an ISU woman at the course.
