Sycamore Baseball Walks Off Evansville to Even Series Saturday

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Junior Hayden Jaco played hero Saturday afternoon at Bob Warn Field as the Sycamores walked off Evansville, 3-2, to even the series heading into Sunday's finale.

Tied at two entering the ninth inning, Indiana State (25-21, 7-10 MVC) got off to a quick start when Jarrod Watkins singled up the middle and moved to second on a wild pitch. Evansville looked to seize the momentum a batter later when a ground ball to short turned into an out at third.

Luke Fegen advanced to second on a wild pitch and stole third with one out before Roberto Enriquez was hit-by-pitch to put runners at the corners. Jaco would battle to a 2-2 count before sending a ball through the hole in the left side to secure the win for the Trees.

Each team tallied a sacrifice fly score with the Aces notching a run in the second and ISU in the fifth. Evansville (10-34, 2-15 MVC) awould again take the lead in the top of the seventh on a leadoff home run from Dalton Horstmeir.

Indiana State answered the Aces in the bottom of the eighth when senior Dane Giesler picked up an RBI double down the line in left to score CJ Huntley who reached on a hit-by-pitch.

Five different Sycamores recorded base hits in the game. Dane Tofteland, Giesler and Jaco each tallied RBIs for the Sycamores.

Ethan Larrison picked up the win for the Sycamores after pitching a scoreless eighth and ninth inning. The senior struck out two and gave up two hits as he improved to 2-6 on the year.
