Sycamore Baseball Claims Series with Senior Day Win over Evansville, 14-9

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Indiana State baseball picked up a 14-9 victory over Evansville to claim the Missouri Valley Conference series at Bob Warn Field Sunday afternoon. Clay Dungan and Romero Harris each tallied three base hits apiece as the Sycamores outhit the Aces, 14-12.

Tyler Grauer earned the victory out of the bullpen for the Sycamores after going four and a third innings and striking out five batters to improve to 2-0 on the year.

Jake Means powered the Sycamores (26-21, 8-10 MVC) with his ninth and 10th home runs of the season while driving in a game-high four runs. Senior Dane Giesler finished 1-for-3 with a pair of walks and RBIs.

Evansville (10-35, 2-16 MVC) jumped out in front in the opening frame, taking advantage of two early Sycamore errors. After reaching third on an error Troy Beilsmith would come home on another before the Aces capped off the inning with a three-run home run from Sam Troyer. UE added a run in the second before the Sycamores finally got on the scoreboard in the home half of the second.

Romero Harris doubled to lead off the second and Jake Means walked. That was when Roberto Enriquez and Luke Fegen went for back-to-back singles to score runs. A third run would come across on a fielder's choice.

ISU would take the lead in the fourth inning, scoring four runs. Jake Means' would homer in the inning -- the first of the day for the junior. Though Evansville kept it close, the Sycamores would hold onto the lead for the remainder of the contest before creating separation in the eighth with another four-run frame.

Weston Rivers went three and a third innings, striking out three batters in the no-decision.

On a day when Evansville would use nine pitchers, right-hander Austin Allinger (1-4) would be charged with the loss after giving up the go-ahead run.

The Sycamores travel to Columbia, Missouri for a midweek contest with Mizzou Tuesday. First pitch is set for 7 p.m. ET from Tyler Field.
